Read the Bible in a Month

The following is a plan for reading the Christian Scriptures in a month (that is, thirty-one [31] days). Here are a few things of which you should be aware:

This is based on the Roman Catholic canon of Scripture as published in the New Jerusalem Bible and the New American Bible. Other canons (including some Greek and Slavonic canons) differ slightly. The Protestant canon differs significantly. The elements of the Greek and Slavonic canons not included in the Roman Catholic canon are redundant with other texts and include 1 Esdras and 3 and 4 Maccabees and Psalm 151.
This is not intended for devotional reading. This is intended for the student of Scripture who needs to read the entire Scripture quickly. Ideally, you should already have a fairly complete knowledge of Scripture and want to fill in the areas where you are lacking. (For example, I have already completed Old and New Testament survey courses during my undergraduate studies.)
Though not intended for devotional reading, I tried to incorporate some pious principles rather than simply starting with Genesis and ending with the Apocalypse of John. I wanted a reading from the following categories every day: a Gospel, a Psalm, a Proverb, an Old Testament and a New Testament. If this involves too much page turning for you, just read forty-four (44) chapters a day.
The final New Testament reading is longer than the rest. I miscounted somewhere. It would take more work to remedy this than I wish to expend right now. Perhaps later I will rectify this situation.
As a gesture towards the Greek and Slavonic canons, I parenthetically included Ps 151 in the last day. You can easily find it on the web. It is a pseudopigraphal psalm of David which is inferior in quality to the other psalms. You miss little (if anything) by its omission.
The abbreviations are those prescribed by the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition, as published online at the Henry Buhl Library.
I used the Biblical statistics at the excellent Catholic-Resources.org website. Some valuable resources for study of Scripture are hosted there. I highly recommend it.
